BOL001  La Medalla Presidencial

  • Medal instituted on 11 August 1825 as a gift from the Congress of the recently formed Bolivian republic to Simón Bolívar. Shortly before his death, he decided to return the medal to the Bolivian people.
  • The Congress, by Decree of 15 September 1831, decided to reward medal to the Andrés de Santa Cruz in recognition of the eminent services he had done to the country. Marshal Santa Cruz replaced the reverse of the Presidential Medal. New reverse was removed in 2002, recovering its original shape.
  • On 28 October 1839, the Congress decided that the medal would be the main Presidential insignia, which should be worn by the President and pending gold chain made for this purpose.
