- Medal was instituted in 1979.
- Medal was awarded to personnel of any rank in the Regular and Volunteer Forces of the Army, Navy and Air Force who have been in service on 22 May 1972 or thereafter, and who have completed 12 years of service shall be eligible for the award of the medal.
