- Honorary title Sri Lanka Mitra Vibhushana was instituted in 2008 as the highest Sri Lankan honour for non-citizens.
- Honorary title is awarded to heads of state and heads of government with which Sri Lanka has friendly relations for exceptional and distinguished service to the nation, particularly in fostering friendly relations and solidarity with the people of Sri Lanka.
